Racers participating in the 51st Iditarod show off their teams during the kickoff ceremony in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday, March 4th. The footage shared by US Senator Lisa Murkowski shows mushers and dogs on 4th Avenue on Saturday. According to the Iditarod website, the 51st run of the Last Great Race on Earth will feature 33 teams, mostly from Alaska. Racers and their dogs will run the southern route, which is about 998 miles long. The first rider is expected to finish March 14 in Nome, Alaska. The race ends when the last team, known as the Red Lantern, crosses the finish line. The official start of the race will take place on Sunday, March 5, at 14:00 local time.
