HERENVEEN, The Netherlands – Miho Takagi, the world record holder, could only finish third in the women’s 1500 meters on the last day of the World Speed Skating Championships on Sunday.
Host country favorite Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong won the event in 1 minute 53.54 seconds in Heerenveen, Netherlands, 0.76 seconds ahead of Norway’s Ragne Wiklund and 0.85 seconds ahead of Takagi.
Takagi won her 11th career world championship medal, the most among Japanese speed skaters. Hiroyasu Shimizu scored 10 points in his career ending in 2010.
