West Zone Concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) on Friday said it plans to cut water losses by 162 million liters per day this year.
The volume equivalent to filling 73 Olympic pools is enough to provide water for 162,000 people.
The company said it will be fixing 36,000 pipe leaks in its service area, as well as replacing 180 kilometers of old pipes in parts of Caloocan, Quezon City, Valenzuela City, Malabon, Manila, Parañaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, as well as Imus. and Cavite in Cavite. provinces
“These network upgrades are necessary so that we can continue to reduce water losses and increase water pressure in the distribution system, thereby increasing the available supply for distribution to our customers,” said Maynilad COO Randolph Estrellado.
This year, Maynilad committed 4 billion pesos to its non-revenue water resource management program, which aims to reduce physical and commercial water losses.
The program includes pipe and meter replacement, active leak monitoring using state-of-the-art leak detection technology, the establishment and maintenance of district metering zones, and ongoing network diagnostics.
Maynilad said that since the re-privatization in 2007, the company has fixed 458,000 leaks and replaced 3,083 kilometers of old pipeline, upgrading 66 percent of the pipeline network it inherited from the government.
The Western Zone Service Area includes Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa; parts of Quezon City, Manila and Makati; and Bakur, Imus, Cavite, Rosario, Noveleta and Cavite City.
