Authorities in Haiti have identified new suspects in the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise, including a pastor and a prominent gang leader.
Police spokesperson Harry Derosier told Radio Télévision Caraïbes on Friday that warrants had also been issued against eight police officers.
None of the new suspects have been arrested and it is not clear what role they may have played.

Derosier identified the gang leader as Vitel’Homme Innocent, the leader of the Kraze Barye gang, which roughly translates to “break down barriers”. He is also wanted FBIwho accused him of facilitating the kidnapping of 17 American missionaries in October 2021.
Desrosier did not provide further details and did not immediately respond to a message for comment.

Before new arrest warrants were issued, more than 40 suspects had been detained in the case, including at least 18 former Colombian soldiers accused of raiding Moise’s private residence in an attack that wounded his wife.
Another 11 suspects are in US custody, including a former senator from Haiti and other key figures.
