Cole Sprouse talks about the heartache he experienced after breaking up his real-life relationship with his Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart.
The actor appeared on Wednesday in an episode of “call her papaand went into detail about what it was like to continue starring with Reinhart on Riverdale after their split in 2020.
“It was really hard for both of us, and that’s okay,” Sprouse said. “I think the job became difficult because it was hard to let go of all our feelings for each other. It didn’t give us the luxury of distance to really overcome it. I know we both hurt each other a lot.”
Reinhart and Sprouse met while filming the first season of Riverdale, which premiered on The CW in January 2017. However, the couple did not officially advertise their romance. until May 2018when they attended the Met Gala together.
For the next two years, famous private actors kept their temporary relationship out of the social media spotlight. However, by March 2020, Sprouse confirmed on instagram that he and Reinhart had “parted for good”, adding, “I will always feel happy and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love.”
However, in his “Call Her Daddy” chat this week, Sprouse suggested that he would have ended the relationship sooner “if I loved myself a little more.”
“I just felt like I had to take care of a lot of people around me, which wasn’t good for me,” he explained. “Maybe I should have been a little more selfish in that situation.”
These days Sprouse is happy in torment new relationship with Ari Fournier, French-Canadian model. Reinhart was last year romantic relationship fellow actor Spencer Neville, whose credits include Coed Sex Lives and The Ozarks. Neither of them has publicly confirmed the relationship.
Describing himself as a “consistent monogamist”, Sprouse said that his romance with Fournier “broke me to an understanding of what real compatibility and trust looks like”.
He further noted, “This is the first relationship where I can say, ‘Damn, I have real trust here.’
