Canadian woman found dead mexican resort just a day after arriving with a boyfriend on vacation.
Kiara Agnew, 25, arrived in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, with her 26-year-old boyfriend Ryan Friesen at the Grand Sunset Princess Resort on March 2, and the woman was found dead a day later.
Local police said on Twitter that the man was taken into custody on March 3 after “a lifeless woman was found with possible signs of violence in a hotel located in the Xcalacoco area.”
Office of International Affairs Canadian government confirmed to the Toronto Star that Agnew had died and Friesen had been taken into custody.

“Officers provide consular assistance to families and are in contact with local authorities,” said Charlotte MacLeod, spokeswoman for international affairs.
“No further information can be disclosed for privacy reasons,” she added.
Prosecutors at Quintana Roo said on Twitter that they had opened an investigation into a “foreigner arrested for his alleged involvement” in the murder of a Canadian woman at a Riviera Maya hotel.
Agnew’s aunt, Kathleen Levesque, told the Toronto star that her niece had been looking forward to the trip for a while.

“She is counting down to this trip. This is shocking. We want to know what happened,” Levesque said. “She was a beautiful, wonderful person inside and out. It’s unfair that she was denied the chance to experience life to the fullest.”
Levesque revealed that the couple had been together for a year and a half, adding that she warned his niece be careful while traveling.
“The last thing I told her was to be safe. You know, don’t wander alone, be mindful of your surroundings. I never heard from her back then,” Levesque said.
